CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) is a non invasive, low risk examination that can accurately detect and grade stenoses within the Coronary Arteries. It can also be used to demonstrate coronary anomalies and check the patency of existing grafts.
This technique is now available at our Subiaco Clinic on the GE VCT 64slice scanner.

- Patients with suspected CAD
- Atypical chest pain
- Coronary Artery Anomalies
- Coronary atherosclerosis in asymptomatic patients with known CAD
- Post by-pass surgery patients
From midnight before you will be asked to omit fluids containing caffeine. 4 hours before the procedure you will be asked to fast.
When you arrive at the clinic your blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded. You may be given a tablet called a betablocker. This is to slow your heart rate down to a level which is optimal for the scan. This usually takes 1 hour. Your heart rate will be monitored over this period.
When the ideal heart rate is reached you will be taken into the CT room. The scans are taken with you lying supine and you are connected to an ECG monitor.
A small cannula with be placed in the vein in your arm. This is so the contrast medium can be administered to enhance the vessels of the heart.
The scan itself takes approximately 15 minutes. You will be in the department for 90minutes.
After the examination you can resume normal activities.
