Perth Radiological Clinic - Booragoon, is now home to one of the most advanced CT scanners currently available in Western Australia.
The Booragoon branch of Perth Radiological Clinic offers a complete CT service so that patients no longer need to travel too far from home for complex scans. “We bring the latest in diagnostic capabilities within easy reach for the local community,” says Dr Stephen Melsom, Managing Radiologist at Booragoon.
“We have acquired the latest generation of 64 slice CT equipment which offers important benefits for both patients and referring doctors,” he said. The experience for patients is a faster and more comfortable examination.
“We are able to reduce the radiation dose to patients, making it safer. At Perth Radiological Clinic, this is a high priority.” Additionally, patients are no longer required to drink unpleasant oral contrast for most abdominal CT examinations.
“Virtually all patients find this far more tolerable,” Dr Melsom explained.
With 64 slice CT technology, procedures are now completed faster than ever. “If required, we can scan the patient from head to toe in less than ten seconds. The lungs can be imaged in just a few seconds, which is much more acceptable for patients who can’t hold their breath.”
The Booragoon Clinic is part of Perth Radiological Clinic’s Picture Archive and Communications System (PACS) – a network that connects PRC Clinics across Perth. PRC radiologists with subspecialty expertise across the network are available to consult on complex or difficult cases and to provide second opinions or consensus reviews.
“It’s like having a team of subspecialist radiologists permanently available on site,” Dr Melsom explained.
Referring doctors also have access to digital images through PRC DIRECT. Dr Clinton Stanton, general practitioner at the North Lake General Practice, receives digital images of CT, mammograms, ultrasounds and x-rays directly to his computer in his consulting rooms. “The image quality is excellent; I find this very useful when I discuss the results with my patients.”, says Dr Stanton.
